Editor's Note
The Surp Kevork (Red) Church lies in the Ulu Camii neighbourhood of the Artuklu district of Mardin Province. In 1780, the Metropolitan Avacik Tazbaz found a stone inscription in a corner of the church, written in Syriac (Estrangelo) script with Armenian wording. This inscription records that the building was constructed in the year 420. A manuscript document in the Armenian Monastery in Vienna notes that this structure, one of the oldest places of worship in Mardin, was repaired in 1822. The block on which the church stands belongs to the Armenian Foundation.
