The Mar Hirmiz Chaldean Church lies in the Sar neighbourhood of the Artuklu district of Mardin Province. While the sign at the church's entrance states that it was built in AD 397, according to the chorbishop G. Akyuz it was built in AD 430. It was constructed using cut stone, rubble stone and brick. The three-storey church, set on a rectangular area, consists of an arcaded atrium and the buildings arranged around it. The cluster of buildings around the atrium, whose entrance is on the southwest, comprises the priest's house, a guesthouse, a hall and outbuildings.
