Editor's Note
Our school was opened in 1918 at the Harran Gate under the name "Nusretiye School," after Nusret Bey, the district governor (mutasarrıf) of Urfa. It continued teaching for two years and then dispersed. In 1924 it reopened as the "Nusret Bey School" with three classes in the large hall inside the present-day Tabakhane Mosque, and toward the end of 1926 it was merged with "İrfaniye" (today's Cumhuriyet School). In 1932, upon the abolition of the boarding school, it began teaching in a derelict building under the name Şehit Nusret, and in 1955 it moved into its present modern building.
