Editor's Note
Edessa was an ancient city in Upper Mesopotamia, in what is now Şanlıurfa, founded during the Hellenistic period by Seleucus I Nicator, founder of the Seleucid Empire. It later became the capital of the Kingdom of Osroene and then of the Roman province of Osroene. In Late Antiquity it grew into a prominent center of Christian learning and the seat of the Catechetical School of Edessa, and during the Crusades it served as the capital of the County of Edessa.
