Editor's Note
The mosque was first commissioned by Ragıp Mehmet Pasha (d. 1747), governor of Aleppo and Raqqa. The Halîlürrahman Madrasa within it (a 1740 endowment deed records the allocation of salaries for the madrasa) was built in 1871, during the reign of Sultan Abdülaziz, by Mustafa Efendi, director of the Urfa pious foundations. Beginning with a broad iwan adjoining the shrine section of the Halîlürrahman Mosque, it turns north at the corner, runs along the western shore of the lake, and ends at the opposite corner in a domed maqsura that juts out into the lake.
