Editor's Note
While serving as deputy governor (mütesellim) in one of the sanjaks of the Sivas province, the sanjak was reassigned to someone else, and the new sanjak governor sent his own deputy. Karayazıcı not only refused to accept this new deputy but, with the peasants and irregulars he had gathered around him, killed the sanjak governor who came against him in person. He then also defeated the forces of the governor-general sent against him. After seizing Urfa in 1600, Karayazıcı proclaimed himself ruler. (Source: Karayazıcı, Wikipedia.)
