The Mor Barsuma Monastery lies in a rocky area to the north of Arıca (Kafro) village in the Gercüş district of Batman Province. Carved into the bedrock and consisting of a single two-storey structure, the monastery's date of construction is not known with certainty. The lower floor holds a church and a corridor, while the upper floor contains rooms, a burial chamber and a cistern. The cross motifs on the facade and the cisterns nearby show that the building served both religious and everyday needs.
