The Kahramanmaras Armenian Protestant Church began in the 1850s, when the Armenian Protestants held their first religious gatherings in the home of the brothers Sarkis and Hagop Patpatian. When the Patpatian family's house proved too small as the number of attendees grew, it was decided to build a new church; a plot in the Divanli neighborhood, where a burned-down house stood, was purchased, and the church's foundation was laid there. The first worship in the still-unfinished building took place on the first Sunday of September 1859.
