The Padua St. Anthony Church, popularly known as the Franciscan Church, is a building whose construction began in the late 1890s or just at the start of the 1900s and was completed within a few years. The church's construction is understood within the historical context that took shape as, in the wake of the French Revolution, the Western powers began to assume the role of natural protectors of the minorities within the Ottoman Empire. 19.
