The museum in the village of Harkaçtığı, whose name means "where the irrigation channel was opened," was set up in the village's primary school building, built in 1924. Yaşar Kemal has stated that he wrote his famous novel İnce Memed (Memed, My Hawk) in the village of Harkaçtığı.
