Editor's Note
The Abdul Hamid II Monument, also known as the Haydarpaşa Breakwater, stands on the breakwater opposite Istanbul's Haydarpaşa railway station. Designed by the architect Alexandre Vallaury entirely in marble in honour of the 25th anniversary of Abdul Hamid II's accession, it was completed in 1902 and inaugurated on 21 September, the sultan's birthday.
