This site served in the 13th-century Seljuk period as a small garrison whose function was to provide security for caravans and to collect taxes. There are no remains of lodgings or a caravanserai in the area; the graves belong to the soldiers and officials stationed here. The structure's strategic location was chosen in order to control caravan movements on the Teke Karahisari road. This was not a settlement but a duty and control point. The Seljuk graves right beside the garrison and the tamga (clan emblem) upon them add to the cultural and historical importance of the region.
