The Republic Monument stands in Taksim Square, Istanbul. Created by the Italian sculptor Pietro Canonica with the help of young Turkish artists Hadi Bara and Sabiha Bengütaş, it was completed in 1928 and unveiled on 8 August 1928. Its pedestal and surrounding layout were designed by the architect Giulio Mongeri.
