Editor's Note
The Kesik Minare Mosque, also known as Korkut Camii or Cumanın Cami, stands in the Kaleiçi quarter of Antalya. Originally built as a Roman temple in the 2nd century AD, it was converted in the 7th century into a Byzantine church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, was heavily damaged during the Arab invasions, and was repaired in the 9th century. A minaret was added in the early 13th century when the Sultanate of Rum took Antalya and turned the church into a mosque; in 1361 the crusader king of Cyprus reconsecrated it as a church, and it became a mosque again under Prince Korkut. The main building was destroyed by fire in 1896, leaving only the surviving minaret known today as the Kesik Minare (Broken Minaret).
