Opened in 1885, Topçu Kebap is Antalya's first restaurant and one of the oldest in Turkey. The establishment was founded by Mehmet Arıkan, who began serving only şiş köfte (grilled meatballs) and piyaz (bean salad). Mehmet Arıkan had served as an artilleryman in the Balkan War. Being a large, powerful man, he would set the cannon shells into their cradles by hand, which is why he kept the nickname 'Topçu Mehmet' ('Artilleryman Mehmet').
