Editor's Note
There is no inscription on the building. However, the metal door leading to the second floor bears, in repoussé work, a symmetrical star and crescent, a Seal of Solomon motif, and Arabic letters and numerals reading "Hürriyet 1325" (Liberty 1325). A search of historical sources yielded no result. A safe removed from the building is also said to bear the Arabic date 1850. According to information from local residents, the Fincancıoğlu family, who migrated from Birecik to Nizip in the second half of the 19th century, had it built by a local master.
