Editor's Note
This two-storey building of cut stone, with a garden on its northwest side, located on Hükümet Avenue, was built between 1900 and 1908 by Rifat Bereket, a deputy of Northern Syria. The building's architecture is a miniature version of the palaces and grand mansions of Istanbul, and its plans and designs were drawn up in Istanbul. All the exterior balconies follow the balcony style of the Ottoman palaces and are of carved stone. Its design was prepared by Istanbul architects, while the stone and building masters were brought from Aleppo. The mansion was completed in 1909, after Rıfat Ağa died of cholera in 1907.
