Editor's Note
Karacaören Island is smaller in scale than Gemile Island. On the island are the ruins of a large three-aisled basilica. Asano dated this building to the late 6th-early 7th century, while Foss dated it to the 6th century. Coins from the reign of Heraclius have been found on the island. For this reason it can be argued that the harbour settlement was abandoned in the late 7th century. Source: Harbour Settlements of the Lycian Period in the Byzantine Era, Lale Yılmaz.
