Editor's Note
According to Stephanus of Byzantium, when the population of Xanthos, the Lycian capital, grew, a group of the city's elders founded a town called 'Pınara' on one of the high rocky peaks of Mount Kragos. This city is thought to have borne the Hittite name 'Pinali'. In Lycian inscriptions it is read as 'Pinale'.
