Editor's Note
The Tomb Church stands north of the City Gate, on the ancient road approaching the city from the south, between Tepecik to the west and Günlük Tepe to the east. Built in the mid-4th century AD to the west of a Roman Imperial-period terrace wall, the structure is known to have remained in use until the 11th-12th centuries AD. Although it underwent many repairs and alterations over this long span, the building has two principal phases. The first phase has a basilical plan. The apse of this three-aisled basilica was built over a torpedo-shaped terracotta tomb enclosed in brickwork.
