The Akalissos Ancient Settlement lies 30 km from Kumluca District, at the Asarderesi/Gavuristanlık locality of the Karacaören neighborhood, 2 km from Idebessos. Stephanus of Byzantium and Hierokles, who lived in the 6th century AD, record that Akalissos was a Lycian city. A member of the Lycian League, Akalissos formed a sympoliteia (political union) with its neighbors Idebessos and Kormos during the Roman Imperial period. Akalissos was severely damaged in the great earthquake of AD 141, which devastated nearly all of Lycia.
