The cave dwellings of Ahlat are hundreds of caves in the Ahlat district of Bitlis Province, used as dwellings in prehistory. Numbering roughly 500-600 and concentrated in canyons such as the Madavans and Harabeşehir valleys, the area has been declared a first-grade archaeological site. Because they stay cool in summer and warm in winter, the caves are now mostly used to store potatoes and other food.
