Story
Tucked along the quiet streets of Kadıköy, the house where Özdemir Asaf lived became an important center of Turkish literature. Born in 1923 and passing away in 1990, Asaf wrote within these walls the poetry and prose for which he was known for its populist voice. A wistful and sensitive voice in Republican-era Turkish poetry, Asaf is remembered for works that engaged with the social issues of his time. Reflecting the typical Kadıköy architecture of the period, the house mirrors the writer's creative world with its narrow, intimate spaces. An interesting note: in the mid-20th century, Asaf's house was a cultural hub where many artists and intellectuals gathered. When you visit, don't forget to read Asaf's works at one of the nearby libraries or cafés to experience Kadıköy's literary atmosphere.
