Located in the Çubuklu area of Beykoz, Sahilhane 46 is an important monumental structure that bears witness to the modern shores of the Bosphorus. Once a symbol of the mansion culture and waterfront life of the late Ottoman period, it has been registered for protection so as to preserve the region's cultural memory through its historical depth. The light filtered through its windows opening onto the Bosphorus, and the green silhouette of the Anatolian side, place the structure within a romantic scene of landscape. The name Çubuklu comes from the pipe-stem (çubuk) makers who settled in this area in the 18th century; the building style of the Sahilhane reflects the craft and commercial dynamism of that period.
