Story
Standing quietly among the narrow streets of Fener, the Patriarchate Fountain is a testimony, written in stone, to Istanbul's multicultural past. Located near the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, this structure was built in the seventeenth century and for centuries served as a water source in the daily life of the Fener district. Bearing traces of Ottoman and Byzantine architecture, the fountain draws attention with its inverted arches and delicate stonework, while the inscriptions upon it keep the era's historical layers hidden. Together with the surrounding churches, synagogues, and madrasas, this district is a symbol of interfaith dialogue and of Istanbul's tolerant heritage.
