Story
Nemrut Krateri ve Gölü is a volcanic caldera extending between the Tatvan, Ahlat, and Güroymak districts of Bitlis. The caldera contains five lakes, two of them large, as well as lava vents, lava cones, hot springs, and caves. The site was registered as a natural monument in 2003 and declared a Ramsar site in 2013. The lake's cold fresh water is fed by snow and spring water. Hiking and wildlife observation are possible in this sensitive ecosystem, where visitors should not enter the lake, light fires, leave litter, or disregard posted warnings.
