Story
This sebil of the Sultan Ahmet Complex is a refined example of the 17th-century Ottoman architecture of compassion. Adorned with white marble and Iznik tiles, this charitable foundation - a social structure the sultan had built for the people - still stands today in the heart of Fatih. Its elegant geometric design and craftsmanship emerged through the skill of the period's masters. The water infrastructure of Ottoman charitable foundations is counted among the city's first systematic water networks and was a pioneer of civil engineering. Integrated with the madrasa and almshouse buildings behind it, this complex served as a center of social welfare.
