Editor's Note
The Azapkapı Saliha Sultan Fountain in Istanbul's Azapkapı district was commissioned after the Tulip Era by Saliha Sultan, mother of Mahmud I. It was designed to form a complex together with the Sokollu Mehmet Paşa Mosque, the Saliha Sultan primary school and the Yeşildirek Hamam. The fountain was extensively restored for the first time in 1953 and again in 2005. Its position within the city and the heavy traffic around it have largely stripped it of its original character as a public square fountain.
