Story
Located in the Melikgazi district, which can be considered the heartbeat of Kayseri, the Sivas Gate is a historic structure that bears witness to the city's greatness in past ages. Carrying the traces of the architectural mastery of the Seljuk and Ottoman periods, this gate greets us across the centuries with its magnificent arched form adorned with fine stonework. This important passage in Kayseri's old city walls played a strategic role in the trade of Northern Anatolia and served as the starting point of the main road leading to Sivas. An interesting fact: although the gate's name comes from the fact that it points toward the Sivas road, it is also known by many locals as the Zincirli (Chained) Gate. Today, visitors who climb atop the gate and gaze upon Kayseri's old urban fabric, breathing in the scent of history carried by the wind flowing through its stone corridors, feel the passage of time emotionally at the foot of this monument that spans the centuries.
