Editor's Note
Harmantepe Castle is a Byzantine fortress near Harmantepe village in the Söğütlü district of Sakarya. It was built in the 12th or 13th century to defend the eastern borders of the Byzantine Empire, on a small hill beside a stream flowing out of Lake Taşkısığı. Its walls reach about 10 metres in height and carry six bastions; having gone long without repair, its walls, gates, and bastions are heavily damaged.
