Story
In Mustafakemalpaşa, where the Simav and Mustafakemalpaşa streams meet, on a rise called Melde Bayırı. It is thought to have been founded in the 7th century BC, though whether by Milesians, Kyzikans or Athenians is unresolved. In 410-409 BC it was paying tribute to the Delian League; later it struck its own coins, carrying the head of Athena. On the hill there are temple remains with fluted column fragments, traces of a bath, mosaics and necropolis ground. No comprehensive excavation has ever been carried out: what is known comes from two rescue digs, one during road works in 1975 and one in 2008.
