The Virgin Mary Monastery is a medieval, now ruined monastery in the Giresun Province, about 11 km east of Şebinkarahisar. Carved into a cave high in the Pontic Mountains and reached by a steep flight of stairs, the four-story building contains a church, a dining room, rooms for the monks, and a classroom, with wall paintings decorating its interior. It is regarded as Turkey's largest rock-cut monastery after the Sümela Monastery.
