Kızkalesi, meaning "Maiden's Castle," is a historic island castle set on a small island in the Erdemli district of Mersin Province, roughly 300 m off the shore and about 80 km from the city of Mersin. The island covers about 15,000 square metres, most of which is taken up by the castle, and the seaside resort town of Kızkalesi takes its name from it.
