Editor's Note
The Library of Celsus is an ancient Roman building in Ephesus, near the modern town of Selcuk in Izmir Province. Commissioned in the 110s CE by the consul Tiberius Julius Aquila as a funerary monument for his father Tiberius Julius Celsus Polemaeanus, former proconsul of Asia, it was completed under the Emperor Hadrian. The two-storey building is thought to have once held around 14,000 scrolls.
