Tepecik Mound, located in the Konak district of İzmir, is an important archaeological site that holds within it the historical layers of Anatolia. As its name suggests, the mound carries the traces of civilizations built one atop another throughout its settlement history. Pottery fragments, architectural remains, and everyday objects from various periods tell us how earlier civilizations lived here. The mound has been inhabited since the earliest ages and offers a cross-section in which different cultures succeeded one another. Archaeological excavations reveal that the communities living here engaged in farming, animal husbandry, and trade. One of Tepecik's most striking features is this layered structure, which shows how ancient Anatolian settlements evolved and developed over time. On your visit to the mound, by examining the changes in the color of the soil and the stone and brick remains, you will have the chance to discover the boundaries between different eras.
