Story
Located in the Fethiye district of Muğla, Ölüdeniz is a natural masterpiece shaped over millennia by the sea and the rock formations. The geological bar system that gave rise to this unique blue lagoon is one of the most intriguing geographic phenomena of the Mediterranean. Sheltered by a sandbank, this stretch of crystal-clear turquoise water shimmers like a jewel handed down from paradise. Carrying the legacy of the ancient Lycian civilization, this landscape was for centuries a center of maritime trade and cultural exchange. Today Ölüdeniz has become a world-famous paragliding center, and the parachutists launching from the surrounding peaks witness the matchless scenery as they descend over the lagoon. The region's protected natural beauty has created a delicate balance between tourism and the environment. Visitor tip: arriving early in the morning to avoid the crowds and visiting at sunrise, where these deep blue and turquoise hues meet, is the best way both to savor the visual feast and to experience nature in harmony.
