Çayönü is a tell (settlement mound) located northwest of the city of Diyarbakır, about 7 km southwest of the Ergani district, near the village of Sesverenpınar. The broad mound measures roughly 160 by 350 metres and stands about 4.5 metres high, with the Boğazçay stream running along its southern edge.
