Story
The Travertenler are Pamukkale's white terraces, formed when thermal water at 35.6 degrees, rich in calcium bicarbonate, comes into contact with the air and deposits calcium carbonate. Water from the spring reaches the head of the formations through a 320-meter channel, spills over a deposition area 60 to 70 meters long, and travels an average of 240 to 300 meters. Their white appearance depends on weather conditions, heat loss, the spread of the water, and the duration of its flow. Not every part of the site is kept continuously underwater. Water is released according to a set schedule to prevent algae growth and harden the gel-like deposit.
