The Pools Monument (Havuzlar Anıtı) in Eceabat was erected as a lasting witness to the Turkish resistance and heroism displayed in the legendary Battle of Gallipoli of 1915. Built to commemorate the sacrifice of our soldiers who served along the defensive lines stretching across the Strait, this monument is set around industrial water pools designed in the open and forms a visual whole opening out toward the sea horizons. The gun emplacements and fortified batteries that stood in the Eceabat area during the war are successful examples of the Ottoman army's defensive strategy, and these monuments still stand today. The area where the monument is located is one of the most important historic sites of Gallipoli; every stone here has witnessed events that left their mark on world military history. Thanks to its position on the seashore, visitors can both pay their respects at the monument and see the strategic importance of the Strait in concrete terms. During your visit, you can stop by the nearby Çanakkale Wars Museum and the other fortifications to gain a deeper understanding of this epic era.
