Editor's Note
Amnista (or Amnistos) was a settlement of ancient Caria whose name does not appear in ancient authors but is inferred from inscriptions; deriving from Luwian or Carian, it probably means 'Mother Goddess'. Little is known of its history, with only a single record indicating it belonged to Rhodes in the Hellenistic period. Parts of the town preserve walls up to 5-6 metres high with a gateway, and a small stretch of stone wall on the shore is thought to belong to its harbour; the site lies on a headland near Karacasöğüt cove, about 24 km northwest of Marmaris.
