Modra was a town of ancient Bithynia, situated according to Strabo at the sources of the river Gallus on the northern slope of the Bithynian Olympus. It later became a bishop's seat and remains a titular see of the Catholic Church; the surrounding district was called Modrene, and its site lies near Mudurnu.
