Pteria was an ancient city in northern Cappadocia, the capital of the Leucosyri. According to Herodotus it was captured and ruined by the Lydian king Croesus in 547 BCE. It was also the site of the Battle of Pteria, an undecided clash between Cyrus the Great and Croesus.
