Story
Three point three kilometres east of Alemşah village in Ezine, on a coastal hill called Beşiktepe, stood a city of the Troad; its name is the plural of the Greek word for hill or mound. Greek pottery begins to appear on the site from the seventh century BC, indicating its foundation as a colony. The small city had its own historian: Daës of Kolonai, the only literary figure known from the place and a writer of local history. In 425/424 BC it paid the Delian League a thousand drachmas, while its neighbour Larisa paid three talents in the same year. In 399 BC the local ruler Mania forcibly returned it to the Persian Empire, and the Spartan general Dercyllidas freed it again the following year.

Did you know
- Through the fourth century BC the city struck coins showing the head of Athena on the obverse.
- It should not be confused with Lampsacene Kolonai, in the hills above Lampsacus in the north-east of the Troad.
- It is assumed to have been drawn into the union with Alexandria Troas around 310 BC, and abandoned at that point.
