Editor's Note
Castabus (Kastabos) was a town of ancient Caria on Mount Eren, near the village of Hisarönü in the Marmaris district of Muğla, at the Pazarlık locality. By no later than 300 BC it came under Rhodian control as part of the Rhodian Peraea. In 1960 the British archaeologists J. M. Cook and W. H. Plommer discovered near the town an ancient Greek temple of the 1st century BC dedicated to the demigoddess Hemithea; Diodorus relates that Hemithea was abducted by Apollo and deified at Castabus. The foundation of the Ionic-order structure, dating from the 4th century BC, can be seen on the platform built for it.
