Editor's Note
Artace (Artake) was a Milesian colony and harbour town in ancient Mysia, on the peninsula of Cyzicus. In Greek mythology it is remembered as the place where the Argonauts exchanged the stone anchor of the Argo for a larger one. The city was burned along with Proconnesus during the Ionian Revolt under Darius I and apparently was not rebuilt for a long time, since Strabo in the 1st century does not list it among the towns of Mysia, mentioning only a wooded mountain and a nearby island of the same name.
