Best-preserved Roman temple in Anatolia — Zeus's white-marble peripteros stands intact above the Penkalas in Çavdarhisar.
Editor's Note
Aizanoi was an ancient Greek city in western Anatolia, at the modern village of Çavdarhisar near Kütahya, on both sides of the Penkalas river about 1,000 m above sea level. An important political and economic centre in Roman times, it preserves a well-preserved Temple of Zeus, a combined theatre-stadium complex, and a round building inscribed with a copy of Diocletian's Price Edict. In 2012 the site was submitted for the UNESCO World Heritage List.
