Gideros, the ancient Cytorus, is a historical settlement and natural protected area within the Cide district of Kastamonu Province, on the coastal road between Cide and Kurucaşile. The name of ancient Cytorus, mentioned by Homer, survives in Gideros, both a bay of the Black Sea and a nearby neighbourhood; its narrow harbour mouth was said to have served as a hiding place for pirates.
