Gentinos appears in the Athenian tribute records between 452/1 and 444/3 BC, evidence that this small city of the Troad belonged to the Delian League. It minted its own bronze coins, marked ΓΕΝ or ΓΕΝΤΙ. The settlement lies today near Ballı Dağ Höyüğü, close to the village of Pınarbaşı in Çanakkale's Ezine district: a city that survives chiefly in tax lists and small change.
