Editor's Note
Carene (Karene) was a town of ancient Mysia. The army of Xerxes I, marching from Sardis to the Hellespont, passed from the Caicus through Atarneus to Carene, and from there across the plain of Thebe past Adramyttium and Antandrus. The town is mentioned by Stephanus of Byzantium and in a fragment of Ephorus, which records that settlers were sent from here to Ephesus after the Ephesians had been defeated by the people of Priene.
