Story
At the place called Cerit Osman Kalesi near the village of Danişment in Milas, on the slopes of the Ilbıra range, stood a city of the Leleges, with its defences on the summit. By Strabo's day the city had ceased to exist physically and its memory survived only in Pedasis, the name given to the district. Its most striking document is an inscription found by chance in August 1998 in a summer house belonging to the village of Kapıkırı: a treaty of union between Pidasa and its neighbour Latmos, dated between 323 and 313 BC. The text does more than merge borders; to force social integration it imposes compulsory marriage, Latmian men to Pidasan women and Pidasan men to Latmian women, for at least six years.
